Generally Available Outside of Ohio South Zone Duck Season

Duck Season first split is generally one week the last week in October and starts again after Deer Gun Season, until the end of January.

This is a swampy, thick, awesome area next to ag with limited access. The neighbor to the north keeps tight control on his property, and the industrial site to the east is a “No Hunting Zone”

Some of the biggest and best deer on camera often show up on these waterfowl properties because of proximity to riverways and agriculture. If you look at the B&C map of the US, you will see that there is strong correlation between river and waterway systems and trophy whitetails.
These still gives you the most premium times to hunt:

  • First Three weeks of October (opening Archery and pre-rut)
  • Month of November (RUT)
  • Deer Gun Season (only allowed to use archery equipment during gun)

YOU CAN ACCESS the property anytime outside of duck season throughout the year to hang stands, bait, cameras, etc.

Across the road from the Ohio River agricultural bottoms with tons of food around that makes bucks grow large.

PRO’s

  • Littered with deer sign
  • Behind locked gate.
  • All flat terrain
  • Neighbor at the entrance keeps watch on the gated entrance.
  • Big buck area with lots of ag around
  • Thick deer bedding on site
  • Lake property to the north quality manages their deer hunting
  • Industrial plant to the east does not allow hunting
  • First time being leased for deer hunting
  • We ALWAYS see deer when duck hunting here.

CON’s:

  • ARCHERY ONLY; landowner does not want gun hunting that close to industry.
  • Access is not the easiest for ATVs. We are working on gaining better ATV access. We can work together and MAYBE cut an ATV trial in, depending on water levels and what the beavers are up to.
  • Although this is the first time being leased and deer hunting permission has not been given, we know there has been trespassing in the past.
